There are a few requirements that all new incoming students must meet:
- Proof of immunization for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella.
- Tuberculosis Screening (international students only)
These medical entrance requirements are due before registering for orientation.
Proof of Immunizations
What vaccines are required for the University of Mississippi?
Only documentation of two MMR vaccines (measles, mumps and rubella ) is required for admission.
What documentation do I submit?
Measles, mumps and rubella are serious communicable diseases that can spread in close living or classroom environments. All students, including transfers, must be vaccinated to prevent these outbreaks. You must show proof of immunity before you can register for orientation.
Proof of immunity to measles, mumps, and rubella must be submitted in one of the following ways:
- A physician statement documenting prior infection of measles, mumps and rubella
- Blood test (serology confirmation of measles, mumps, and rubella immunity)
- Documentation of two MMR vaccines by providing:
- Certificate of Immunization Compliance Form 121 (MS residents) or
- Immunization records provided by your State Health Dept. or local physician’s office
How do I submit my immunizations?
The University of Mississippi has partnered with Med+Proctor for immunization compliance and verification. Please note all new incoming students must upload proof of immunization to be reviewed by Med+Proctor. You will not be able to register for classes without completing this requirement.
We recommend you start this process early so that you will be able to register for classes during your orientation session.
NOTE: With the new partnership with Med+Proctor, no forms will be accepted via email or fax.
NOTE: You will see options to pay $10 to access extra benefits or “expedite review.” You DO NOT have to pay $10 to submit your immunizations or “expedite review” unless you want to. Click the option to “Submit your health forms for free without the upgrade.”
How long does it take to verify my immunizations?
After you have attached/uploaded your proof of immunizations to Med+Proctor, it usually takes between 24-48 hours for review. This is why it is so important to immediately upload your proof of immunization after you are admitted. It is also important to continually check in your Med+Proctor account to make sure they did not have any issues with the documentation you submitted.

Timing of MMR administration:
- Individuals born after January 1, 1957, are required to have two doses of measles (rubeola) vaccine given after 12 months of age. Immunizations must be repeated if given at less than 12 months of age, or before January 1, 1968. There must be a minimum time interval of four weeks between the two doses of measles vaccine.
- Two mumps vaccinations after the age of 12 months.
- Two rubella vaccinations that were administered after 12 months of age (on or after January 1, 1969)
Note: These were usually given together as MMR.
Are there any exemptions to the MMR requirement?
Students can submit medical exemptions and religious exemptions to be reviewed.

Tuberculosis Screening
Screening for tuberculosis is required for all international students entering the University of Mississippi for the first time. A chest X-Ray and a blood test (interferon-gamma release assay, i.e. IGRA) is required prior to registration for courses and must be done in our facility. Chest x-rays and/or reports from outside the USA will not be accepted.
International students entering the University of Mississippi for the first time are also required to meet the same immunization requirements as domestic students. See Certificate of Compliance described and linked above. If you have not had the required immunizations or are unable to obtain the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) in your country, contact the Student Health Center or the International Office to learn how you can get the immunizations once you arrive on campus.
Testing for Tuberculosis
Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection found most often in the lungs but can spread to other parts of the body. Untreated, it can destroy lung tissue and make breathing difficult or impossible. TB is a particular public health concern because it can spread easily through the air when an infected person speaks, coughs, or sneezes.
There are two types of TB:
1. Latent TB infection
2. TB disease
TB bacteria can live in the body without making a person sick. This is called latent TB infection. People with latent TB infection do not feel sick, do not have TB symptoms, and cannot spread TB bacteria to others.
People with TB disease can spread the bacteria to others, feel sick, and have symptoms.
What are the symptoms of TB?
· Coughing for more than two weeks
· Pain in the chest
· Coughing of blood
· Fatigue and weakness
· Weight loss
· Loss of appetite
· Night sweats
How will I be tested?
You will be tested with a chest X-ray and an IGRA blood test.
What is an IGRA blood test?
Interferon Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) measures how strong a person’s immune system reacts to TB bacteria by collecting blood.
Why am I being tested?
Screening for TB is required for all international students entering the University of Mississippi for the first time per Section 605 C of the Policies and Bylaws of the Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning. Chest x-rays and/or reports from outside the United States will not be accepted.
How will I be notified of my test results?
It is very important that you give Student Health Service your preferred contact cell phone number. This is how we will communicate positive results to you. If we are unable to reach you by phone, we will send a message via email. Please check your Ole Miss email regularly. If your results are negative, you will not receive communication from us.
What does a positive IGRA result mean?
A positive IGRA result means that the person has been infected with TB bacteria. Additional tests are needed to determine if the person has latent TB infection or TB disease. We will help set up that treatment plan for you if your test positive.
