Do I need to be seen?
Because of the complexity of health problems, it is impossible for a nurse to make this decision over the phone. You will be advised to come to Student Health Services (SHS) to be seen by a healthcare provider.
Appointments and Walk-ins
Appointments at SHS are encouraged but not necessary to be seen for an illness or injury. Students are seen in the order that they sign in as a walk-in, but those with an appointment are prioritized. Annual gynecological examinations and athletics, ROTC, and diving physicals do require an appointment. Appointments may be made by calling 662-915-7274. Walk-ins are accepted until we reach provider-capacity for the day.
SHS opens at 8 a.m. Monday through Thursday and at 9 a.m. on Friday; closing time is 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students who come to the clinic early in the morning usually have a shorter wait time.
When you sign in, you may choose to see the next available healthcare provider or request a particular provider. Students who have Blue Cross insurance should request a Blue Cross provider. However, if you do not choose to wait for a Blue Cross provider or if one is not on duty, you will be asked to sign a form indicating that you are aware that the provider you will see at Student Health, for that visit, is not a Blue Cross provider.
Visits at Employee Health Center are by appointment only.
